Travel Gone South

Is Gentrification connected to Climate Justice?

Together with BCCIC we explored critical issues in global tourism, including extractive travel practices, gentrification, spiritual appropriation, and the impacts of North-to-South migration. The goal was to inspire attendees to travel thoughtfully, respectfully, and with a community-centered approach.

Gallery

Curated by Ritmos Climáticos members (Sofya Babak, Mackenzie Kuenz, and Clara Gomes), the gallery walk visually explored tourism's complex impacts. This gallery was composed of several pieces that were gathered from social media, global artists and some of our community connections as well. We aim to post a digital version of this gallery on our website by the start of 2025. At the end of the gallery, a video edit we prepared highlighted both challenges of gentrification or negative impacts of travel and a counterpart of sustainable solutions.
